A myriad of boats dangled on the azure blue lake, as if competing with the deep blue of the northern reaches of the endless Adirondack sky. Some were racing while others languished near the shores of a 72-acre private island in the middle of the most pristine lake of all. Our destination is the town of Bolton Landing on mystical Lake George. Our respite is the Sagamore, located on the northern end of the lake totally within the borders of the six million acre New York Adirondack State Park, the largest intact wilderness east of the Mississippi. We landed at Albany International, a relatively small but astonishingly buzzing airport, which is serving Albany, the capital city of New York. We rented a town car, took Interstate 87 and couldn't believe that we reached our destination already within an hour.
The resort features a historic, colonial hotel and adjoining 'lodges'. The grounds were superbly manicured and nicely planted and the scent of pines inspired us to breath deep. Check-inn was delightful, all three ladies behind the elaborately designed front-desk smiled at once. Suite
“The resort and the entire lake region enjoy a four-season climate; summers must be quite pleasant.” ~ IL
Slowly but surely we got to understand why this elegant resort is a year-round destination. Besides its breathtaking location it is a sports paradise, featuring a championship golf course, tennis courts, a sailing school and easy access downhill skiing in the winter. Throughout its vibrant history, the Sagamore has been a 'social center' for the 'rich and famous' of Green Island and Millionaires Row, noble mansions along the island's western shore.
The Sagamore - AIRVIEW
Our casual-elegant, spacious suite was simply splendid with a gas fireplace and homey decorated in Adirondack country style. There was a small balcony with a couple of comfortable chairs, and while we kept the door open at night we were able to listen to the lake lapping on the shore. The delightful, spacious bath facility was equipped with bathtub and a separate walk-in shower. The overall experience was definitely a relaxing one; we had breakfast at the main hotel the next morning and were impressed with the service and the variety of this 'county style on white linen breakfast buffet'. All in all this is a most cared for private island resort, well managed, indeed.
“This luxury resort is a fine base for an adventure.” ~ IL

The elegant pool and spa facilities and sumptuous breakfast buffet at the EssTisch the next morning is alone worth the stay. The accommodations we had booked turned out to be a tastefully furnished junior suite with views over a park that was expertly kept...

Yanqi Lake Hotel
Just a half hour from Beijing is a place like no other. A place where the sky is wide and the business of the throbbing city becomes distant and unreal. Yanqi Lake, located on the foothills of the stunning Yanshan Mountains and surrounded by a diversity of picturesque trees, is the place where...

Burj Al Arab
Our arrival at Burj Al Arab was of true Seven Star style. Four lovely hostesses and a host welcomed us in the tradition of Jumeirah - with warm smiles, cold towels, Arabian coffee, sweet dates and chilled rosewater. Much has been written about the decorative style of Burj Al Arab...
